Six Miles Across London Limited, ‘small.®’ an innovative architectural and design start up and Shard engineer WSP unveil 100% recycled emergency shelter, ‘BottleHouse’®. Every minute, a million plastic bottles are bought around the world and the number is set to top half a trillion by 2021, far outstripping our recycling efforts and endangering our oceans and coastlines. And the recent discovery of a 50-year-old plastic bottle of washing-up liquid on Brean Beach in Somerset has highlighted just how much of an environmental crisis this has become. small.® with support from Shard engineer, WSP, have come up with an innovative shelter design that uses low cost, lightweight and sustainably sourced materials, namely discarded plastic bottles, bamboo and straw in a bid to tackle plastic pollution and provide emergency shelter to disaster-stricken communities in the light of the recent tsunami in Indonesia.
